Game Changers: ‘Ugly’ Phil on his next big move
‘Ugly’ Phil O’Neil is preparing for the next chapter in his radio career with a move back to the UK for a new gig.
The former My Generation and Triple M Afternoons announcer has played his cards close to his chest. Until now.
In the latest episode of Game Changers: Radio with Craig Bruce, O’Neill reveals what he’s planning next in Britain.
He’s heading back to the ‘Mother Country’ for a new breakfast show on Fix Radio.
“It was kind of like a no-brainer, but also a difficult decision for me because it’s a new radio station and is essentially a station for builders and tradespeople in the UK.
“The people behind it are radio people and they just want to make great radio. That’s all I’ve wanted to do since I was 16 years of age.
O’Neil also chats to Craig about his start in radio, his career over the past 38 years, celebrity and the evolution of the ‘Ugly Phil’ brand.
“A lot of people say ‘have you had regrets’ and I don’t have many regrets about things.
“I don’t regret walking away from the Hot 30 when it was at its peak. I don’t regret walking away from Nova. I don’t regret walking away from Triple M breakfast.
“The only two regrets I’ve actually got are walking away from two gigs in the UK because I let people down who really, really believed in me.”
As with the previous 95 episodes of Game Changers, it makes for some great listening:
