Google announces increased support for podcast search

Google is set to upgrade its news search function and will also launch podcast indexing.

TechCrunch reports Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai made the announcement at the company’s developer conference Google I/O.

Users of Google search will now find it easier than ever to find relevant episodes of a given podcast.

This comes through Google’s decision to begin indexing podcasts. Essentially, users can search for a topic and Google will display podcasts where that topic is covered.

Previously, it was difficult to find a podcast unless the title or author was part of the search criteria.

In addition, Google users will be able to listen to the podcast within Google’s search results or save an episode for later.

“These are all examples of how we are making search even more helpful for our users surfacing the right information in the right context,” said Pichai.
