Heidi’s Happiness Project

Staff Writer

It’s hard to sum up the last 4 weeks in an article as so much has happened with this project and so much amazing content that has changed people’s lives.

It’s been emotional roller coaster and something I’m super proud of.

This is how it all started – We began “Happiness Project” after I read a book called the “The Happiness Trap” by Dr Russ Harris. The book is based on scientific research around the psychological trap & vicious cycle we tend to spend so much of our lives in. The harder we strive for happiness, the further away we get from it. He guides you through processes & techniques to start living & get out of your head. I’m fixated with losing the last five kilos in weight. I use the term “The Last Five Kilos” as a metaphor to describe the last hurdle in your quest for happiness. “The Last Five Kilos” could be absolutely anything. I wrote an article about this in my column for a local publication Perth Now, I was then contacted by so many people who wanted to join me on the quest.

Then, the project begun. We put together the team – Tony an engineer in his early 20’s who had suffered body image issues from high school bullying and Delta, an account manager who has been stuck in a non- relationship with a guy for 2 years who won’t date her, but happy to sleep with her at any time.

Over a few weeks, these guys opened up and shared their stories and experiences on the radio.

We sent both of them off to healers, an open gathering where they had to share their stories with random strangers. Delta had a one-on-one session with my sexuality coach, whilst Tony had a one-one one with boxer Danny Green.

In a bold attempt to face his body image issues, Tony agreed to participate in Nude Yoga run by Yogi God Rosie Rees. Though very confronting, Tony said he had never felt more comfortable within his skin and it actually changed his life – see the video, here:

We had so many people from Perth get involved including a bunch of men talking about body image issues which is something that is so rare!

I have so much to say about this but probably best send you to the web page where you can watch videos and listen to the audio below: don’t forget to grab some tissues J/

We finished the “Happiness Project” off on the Saturday just gone with a Mindful Morning which was super successful.

Around 300+ beautiful souls joined us at Lake Monger for a morning of yoga, meditation, laughing yoga and some inspirational speakers.

I can’t even explain how overjoyed and humbled I am with the turn out for Saturday, hundreds of people came together on their mats and shared in an amazing experience.

My bestie Mel and her amazing teacher Taryn from Twisting Peacock Yoga created an amazing flow for everyone to move to and a mediation that  bought me to tears.

The energy within the group was mind blowing, so many people came up to me after that felt and had a similar connection to me.

The meditation bought tears of joy to many of us… were all their for the same reason. I can’t explain the tears, it was as if was a release and realisation that we can be happy. Some were letting go of abusive relationships, worrying about their weight and looks, some just needed to know that they weren’t alone in the quest for happiness.

I couldn’t stop crying all day, tears of joy all day!!!

It was a fun morning and  I am absolutely stoked that in my position, we can make moments like this happen.

I am one happy woman and so grateful for the love and support Perth has given this project.
