In an effort to encourage listeners to support local businesses across the Hunter region, Hit106.9’s Nick, Jess and Ducko are bringing the region Big Friday Takeaway on May 29.

From crispy thin crust pizza to juicy spring rolls, the brekkie team want to help out local businesses who have been impacted in recent times.

They are encouraging the community to support local restaurants and takeaway shops by turning off the stove and ordering in a delicious feed.

“Nobody should cook on a Friday, personally we think it should be a law,” they said.

“So why not enjoy the amazing food local Newcastle restaurants have to offer, sit back relax and join us stuffing our faces. It’s for the community so the calories don’t even count.”

Big Friday Takeaway coincides with Southern Cross Austereo’s $1 million Shop Local campaign, which encourages local communities to support small businesses.

Hunter locals are encouraged to order takeaway for breakfast, lunch, or dinner on Friday, upload a picture to Instagram and tag @hitnewcastle plus their local restaurant.

Shop Local is the largest national and locally voiced campaign SCA has ever rolled out, with over $1 million of SCA’s owned media invested in the campaign.

The spots feature ads voiced by over 70 Triple M and Hit Network talent around Australia, including Pricey from Triple M Townsville and Carrie Bickmore from Hit drive.

In addition, each local station is giving small businesses, in their towns and cities, the opportunity to receive a “shout out” on-air and across social media.

The radio network is also inviting local operators, from restaurants and cafes to tradies and beauty salons, to get in touch with their local station for a shout out.
