Triple j gears up for Hottest 100 weekend

Staff Writer

The ABC’s youth station, triple j, is preparing for its Hottest 100 Countdown, which kicks off from midday (AEDT) tomorrow.

The iconic countdown used to take place on the Australia Day public holiday (January 26), however at the tail end of 2017 the station announced it would move the date to one which was less insensitive and inflammatory.

Last week, the station revealed that fewer than 350 votes separated the #1 and #2 songs, based on online listener votes.

The station has now released some teaser clues ahead of tomorrow’s countdown.

The 2021 countdown will feature 66 songs from local artists, tying with 2016’s countdown for the most Australian entries.

26 artists are making the Hottest 100 debut this year, while two artists are making their seventh consecutive appearance. And three artists land back-to-back songs in this year’s countdown.

Timings for the countdown are below.

KEY HOTTEST 100 DATES
12pm AEDT Sat 23 Jan: Hottest 100 countdown on triple j

Mick C, dude…

Are you angry about a station that changed 40 years ago? That’s some long term resentment you’ve been hanging on to.
