Live & Local: How Snow FM’s Beau & Jess made their mark in one ski season

Former Assistant Editor

Snow FM’s Breakfast team Beau Brescianini and Jess Hardy may only have been working together for less than a year, but they’ve already developed great chemistry and enviable localism on their show.

Beau is also the music director of Snow FM, a role that’s secured him an ACRA nomination for Best Music Director.

Beau and Jess met at the pub earlier this year, and wasted little time in becoming favourites of the community by getting involved in local issues in Jindabyne and the surrounds, helping with several fundraisers, and generally making great radio.

“We hit it off straight away over a couple of beers and felt pretty comfortable with each other off the bat,” the pair tell Radio Today.

There’s no great secret behind why the pair quickly became popular this 2018 ski season on Capital Radio Network’s Snow FM.

Snow FM broadcasts in NSW across Cooma, Jindabyne, Bombala, Thredbo, Perisher and Charlotte Pass; towns whose populations swell considerably between the months of May and September (during Australia’s relatively short ski season).

We try not to take ourselves seriously with a warm, natural banter and plenty of self-deprecating gags which we feel has really resonated with our Audience,” Beau and Jess tell Radio Today.

“Our aim is to have as much fun as we can and hope it spreads to our listeners. So far, we feel it’s really connected. We try to tackle a little of everything you’d hear no matter which bar stool you landed yourself on.”

Radio Snowy Mountains GM Andrew Dunkerley says he’s been impressed with just how quickly the duo understood the importance of localism.

“Beau and Jess have had great on-air chemistry from day one and engaged well with the community and they have really embraced what being a local breakfast team means,” he says.

The only downside of this burgeoning show is that Jess has already been snapped up by NOVA Entertainment’s Star FM and won’t return to Snow FM next year.

“It’s a shame we are losing Jess after such a short period especially with how well the show has developed and progressed but wish her all the best,” says Dunkerley.

“We have really had a lot of fun together and would have loved to see it last longer as we’d love to work together in future,” add Beau and Jess.

“Who knows what the future holds and if we get the opportunity to work together again Beau’s whisky faces future neglect as we’d both be excited to team up again.”
