HOWZAT!: Crocmedia secures new cricket broadcast rights

Staff Writer

Crocmedia is building on its strong sports offering on SEN with a new cricket broadcast rights deal for the upcoming tour of India and the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

It will see five One Day International (ODI) matches and two T20 matches from India, as well as World Cup matches, broadcast on 116 SEN, 1377 SEN+ and DAB+ platforms.

Cricket fans in Adelaide can also hear the game via 1629 SEN SA.

Executive director of Crocmedia, Chris Giannopoulos, says the team was excited to be bringing more International cricket to local fans.

“We were thrilled to add cricket to our summer sports line-up this year – headed by our Chief Sports Caller Gerard Whateley – who also led our coverage of the much-discussed Aussies’ 2018 tour of South Africa.

“Cricket on the radio is part of the fabric of the Australian sporting culture and we look forward to expanding our live coverage through the upcoming Aussie tour in India and the ICC Cricket World Cup.”

The deals were secured with Sports Flashes; India’s fastest growing multi-sports, multi-languages digital content platform.

It also means Crocmedia has the rights to sub-license the ICC Cricket World Cup to other regional broadcasters in Australia as part of the Sports Flashes partnership which will provide coverage of all 48 matches including Australia’s nine matches and the finals series.

The Aussie cricketers head off to the sub-continent later this month with SEN to broadcast game one of the ODI series on Sunday February 24. While the first of the T20 games will be played Sunday March 10 (Monday morning Australia).
