KIIS’ Jase Hawkins forced to self-isolate

Staff Writer

Jase Hawkins, the co-host of KIIS 101.1’s Breakfast show in Melbourne, has been forced to self isolate as a precaution against COVID-19.

Hawkins was on the Virgin Australia flight VA 838 from Sydney to Melbourne over the weekend which carried two international travellers.

The German nationals had arrived on a flight from Japan, but slipped through the cracks and were able to transfer to the domestic flight without partaking in the mandatory two-week quarantine for international arrivals.

So far, it’s been reported the duo have returned a negative COVID-19 result, however everyone on the VA 838 flight needs to wait for a second negative test to come through. In the meantime, they must self-isolate.

Hawkins received a text from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He then vented his frustration and disappointment on social media.

“Your actions have inconvenienced hundreds,” he said addressing the international travellers. “People have had to miss work, seeing family and friends, kids will miss school again.”

He noted how hard Victoria had worked to get its freedoms back, so suggested “let’s not let stupid choices take that away”.

Hawkins hopes the duo have been forced into “a really shit hotel with bad food”.

Hawkins is on survey break at the moment, however appeared on KIIS’ Summer Breakfast show with Ryan Jon and Lauren Phillips this morning to discuss his predicament.

“Everyone was doing a really good job, but it was frustrating at the lack of info, and I’m sitting there going ‘We’re about to start hotel quarantine again in 24 hours, and I feel like I’m getting more info from the radio and TV than people on the phone at the moment,'” he said.

The full chat with Jon and Phillips is below.
