Jobs slashed at Macquarie Radio

Staff Writer
Russell Tate

The redundancies are beginning at the newly merged Macquarie Radio/Fairfax Radio Network, and whilst the exact number of people who will lose their jobs is unclear, what is clear is that it will be significant.

The leaks are coming thick and fast out of the company with Radio Today already having been contacted by numerous people affected.

At this time, there is no official comment, with Chairman Russell Tate only saying that their priority is to consult with staff, and clarify roles. He went on to say that the redundancies were likely to be forced, rather than voluntary.

Despite that, multiple people internally have confirmed that the 2UE newsroom will be shutdown this weekend, with the station to take news from 2GB from next week.

Depending on who you talk to, there looks like being somewhere between 35 and 50 jobs cut nationally. However at this time, there are limited ‘confirmed’ facts, and plenty of speculation. We will let you know of concrete information as it becomes available.
