Nights with John Stanley to replace Philip Brady on 3AW
After a multi-decade run and countless survey victories, Nightline with Philip Brady will retire on Thursday (Sep 26).
As speculated by radio insiders and media, Macquarie Media have confirmed that Nights with John Stanley will broadcast from Sydney into Melbourne from September 30.
“Philip is a giant of our industry and for me, it’s a daunting but exciting challenge to move into the space so successfully occupied by Philip, Bruce and Simon over so many years,” said Stanley in a statement sent to media on Monday night. ”
“It’s been a privilege being on 3AW this year from 8pm to 10pm and I’ll be striving to maintain the Nightline tradition of entertaining and engaging radio between 10pm and midnight.
“The late night audience is loyal, interesting and often colourful. I’m looking forward to talking to and hearing from them.’
The 3AW Nightline program and Philip Brady have enjoyed a long and successful run on the station, still commanding 27.9% of the radio audience.
“3AW is family to me,” said Brady “Apart from almost 30 years of Nightline, I was the station’s casual weekend music presenter right through the 1970s so my heart is at 3AW and will continue to be so.
“Thanks to all our loyal listeners, callers and regulars; it has been a fun ride so far and will continue to be so at weekends. Long may our hearts beat together.”
Brady, 80, will continue hosting Remember When with Simon Owens on Sunday nights.

Very sad that the wonderful Phil and Simon Nightline has been taken off air and replaced with a person from Sydney. Clearly 3AW is not interested in what their listeners want. Phil and Simon’s Show was all about the things that are important to people who live in Melbourne and will be very much missed. I am a long time listener who is now lost to 3AW. That you remove a popular and high rating radio program with no regard to listeners views is quite shocking. I will not be listening to 3AW anymore.

Not interested in what ever John Stanley has to say,poor Melbourne the sad little city has not got anyone who could run a Melbourne radio program???.3AWyou have lost me for one,and bet Im not the first
John Stanley could”nt get results with 2Ue , Macquarie Sports……this is a nail in the coffin for 2GB 3AW long Rating Wins. Stanley is about as welcoming as a Fart in the lift.
Sadly i wont be listening to 3aw at night now, maybe music will have to do . Not interested in Sydney news, loved listening to Simon and Phillip.
I understand that Phillip wanted to reduced his work load.BUT , there are other Melbourne personalities capable of filling his spot with Simon. Or Simon on his own.
Very disappointed that 3aw chose to have John Stanley FROM SYDNEY to replace Phil & Simon. Understand that Phil is 80yrs old and needs to reduce his hrs BUT surely Simon could have continued with a new partner. Melbourne wants to hear about Melbourne.

I have always found 3AW such a friendly , caring radio station all day and all night , I am a very long time loyal listener. Unfortunately love all announcers until Nightline with the Sydney announcer, I now turn off radio and will never listen between 10 and 12pm again until 3AW wake up to themselves and come to the reality that Melbourne does not and will not accept getting rid of a caring , happy, interesting , personal show to listen to Sydney central rubbish from a Sydney boring announcer. I visit my brother who lives in Sydney on a regular basis and never listen to the radio as they are so politically and personally boring , all about Sydney as though the rest of Australia does not exist. Give Nightine to Andrew McClaren and Simon Owens and I along with loads of other listeners will turn back to Nightline. WE ARE MELBOURNE LISTENERS NOT SYDNEY.
They always have to spoil a good thing why could they have not left Simon and Andrew on together Thank You Phill for keeping us entertained
Listen to Phillip and Simon on remember when last night had the best time listening to them had a good laugh bring back Phillip Simon and patti one good thing about this new chap on night line I am asleep in about 10 minutes isn’t 3aw call sign 3aw is Melbourne
