Jon Faine to farewell listeners with live broadcast

ABC Melbourne

After 23 years as host of ABC Radio Melbourne’s Mornings program, Jon Faine will sign off for the final time today with a special live broadcast from Melbourne Town Hall.

The veteran broadcaster began his ABC career 30 years ago as producer and presenter of Radio National’s Law Report. After switching to afternoons on 3LO, he was given the flick in 1996.

Two years later, Faine was invited back as host of Mornings, and the rest is history.

But the 63-year-old is saying goodbye on his terms.

“I’ve asked the ABC to make this show a charity fundraiser, so listeners who want to celebrate can express their pleasure by making a sizeable donation to reflect their delight that I’ve finally gone!”

Faine will be joined by special guests and familiar voices from his years at RN and the ABC, with money raised going to aid an Indigenous foundation.

Faine will hand over the broadcasting baton to respected TV presenter Virginia Trioli, who’ll be sitting in the hot seat from next Monday.
