Smallzy on the rize as Mornings adds 10,000 new listeners

Staff Writer

It’s been a big few months for NOVA Entertainment’s Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small with a move to Mornings on Nova 96.9 Sydney paying dividends.

In the latest GfK radio ratings (his first full survey), On Air With Smallzy increased its listenership by 10,000 listeners to 325,000, increasing to a 6.4% share (+0.5).

On nights, Smallzy’s Surgery has notched up 47 consecutive surveys as the #1 metro Australian night show, with a 10.8% national share.

On top of that, he’s gaining an international following with his celebrity chats.

Last week, Smallzy chatted Katy Perry. Her revelations about the new-age ways and partner Orlando Bloom got a lot of attention, particularly with entertainment and health websites.

The interview was picked up across the world and was equal only to his interview with Sophie Turner and her revelations that husband Joe Jonas almost kissed her Game of Thrones stunt double.

With 15 years in the business, Smallzy got his start behind the mic at NOVA Entertainment’s Star 104.5 in Gosford after graduating from the Australian Film Television and Radio School.

In January 2012 Smallzy started up the Surgery, which now attracts over 750,000 each week.

Smallest Cume rise of all the shows on the station, but sure well done.

#1 Australian night show? Not by a long shot. Metro maybe. Last I looked, Australia was more than just the 5 capital cities.

The Hit Network has their shows going right across Australia.

I do have to echo GFK’s comment re: a 10,000 listener rise being fairly negligible. I’m not saying this to diminish Smallzy’s great success and skill, but a jump from 315,000 to 325,000 actually only represents a 3% cume boost which is obviously better than going down, but nothing to high-five your buddies over.

Having said that, 10,000 listeners is nearly a fifth of Macquarie Sport Breakfast’s listeners, so maybe I’m a douche who should shut their mouth … I don’t know … it’s a Friday.
