Launceston Ratings: Chilli FM surges to massive lead

Tasmania’s Launceston region has a clear radio market leader, with Grant Broadcasters’ Chilli FM easily taking the #1 spot in the latest ratings.

The station now has 31.8% of surveyed listeners who say they listen to the station the most, up 7.9 points from last survey’s 23.9%.

The last survey in the region was conducted in May 2017.

Fellow Grant Broadcasters station LAFM lost its second position, falling 5.7 points to 16.8%, while the ABC’s fall of 4.1 points saw it sit on 17.1%.

The ABC’s youth station triple j, meanwhile, climbed 2.5 points to 14.7%.

Chilli FM was also easily in the lead in Breakfast, with Marie Burt and Dan Taylor’s Dan & Marie commanding 32.9% in the slot, up 8.9 points.

Burt joined the team in 2018.

LAFM’s Jules & Glenn For Breakfast slipped 6.3 points to 14.6%.

ABC Northern Tasmania also took a hit, falling 4.3 points to 19.4% in the Breakfast slot, while triple j climbed 2.1 to 15.5%.

Grant Broadcasters’ Tasmania executive general manager, Tim Holder, said LAFM and Chilli together have dominated the market with exceptional growth.

“Chilli has performed superbly with extraordinary growth across all cohorts and day parts,” he said.

Chilli and LAFM’s general manager, Natalie Castle, said she could not be more proud of her teams who continue to deliver hyper-local content for loyal listeners.

“These results confirm radio continues to be the medium that delivers highly engaged audiences to our partners with more people tuning in everyday than ever before, so thank you Launceston for listening,” she said.

In terms of cumulative audience, Chilli FM was up 8,400 to 48,300, LAFM was down 5,100 to 34,900, the ABC was down 6,100 to 30,000, and triple j was up 4,900 to 24,600.
