First episode of MAFS featuring Bryce Ruthven watched by 964,000 metro viewers

Former Editor & Content Director

Radio’s Bryce Ruthven made his debut on Channel 9’s Married At First Sight last night, with the program averaging 964,000 viewers across the metro markets. With the addition of 291,000 regional viewers, the national average audience was 1.255 million.

Ruthven has in recent years been an announcer on Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Hit 104.7 in Canberra, however SCA confirmed that he has recently resigned.

Last night’s premiere was delayed due to a change in the schedule for the Australian Open tennis, and fell below the premiere numbers of recent years. Last year was the biggest ever launch, with 1.154 million overnight metro viewers, up from 1.003 million in 2019, and significantly higher than 2018’s 912,000.

Despite the drop, the show did top the key advertising demographics of those aged 16 to 39, 18 to 49 and 25 to 54. It also topped the advertising demographic Nine likes to sell on, ‘grocery shopper with child’.

Ruthven has been approached for comment about his post-radio and post-MAFS plans.
