Radio and television host Melissa Doyle quits the Seven Network

Staff Writer

Melissa Doyle has revealed she’s leaving the Seven Network after 25 years.

Doyle – who hosts weekend breakfast on smoothfm – has been a staple of Seven’s flagship programs including Today Tonight, Sunrise, 7NEWS, Sunday Night and most recently The Latest.

Radio Today understands Doyle will continue her smoothfm show every weekend, where she’s on the airwaves from 6am every Saturday and Sunday. She joined the Nova-owned network in 2013.

Doyle began her media career at Seven’s Canberra bureau and leaves the Kerry Stokes empire over two decades later, following stalled contract negotiations, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The popular presenter announced her departure on Instagram and thanked media tycoon and Seven West chairman Stokes for his “constant support” at the television station she calls “home”.

“For 25 years, I have called Channel Seven home,” Doyle said. “I’ve had the privilege to share stories that mattered, meet incredible people and be there for significant moments in history.

“I want to thank the consummate professionals I have worked with along the way, in particular our Chairman Kerry Stokes for his constant support.”

Doyle also said she leaves Seven with pride, satisfaction and gratitude, and remains appreciative of the trust and warmth from viewers during her wildly successful run on the small screen.

Such a shame. Melissa has been the first lady in television as far as I am concerned. We are lucky to have had her grace our tv for all these years. Will miss your ever beautiful smile. Thank you so much

Thank you so much for your common sense, good humour, and ability to relate to the ‘people’. Wish you well in any future endeavours.
