Ex-SCA chief executive Michael Anderson departs MediaWorks

Staff Writer

Michael Anderson has resigned from his role as CEO of MediaWorks NZ after almost four years in the position.

Anderson, formerly the CEO of Southern Cross Austereo, released a statement in which he said it was “privilege” to lead the company, which owns radio stations The Edge and The Rock.

He will depart at the end of 2020. “I have absolutely loved the experience of leading this exceptional company over the past four years and it has been a privilege to do so,” said Anderson.

“When I joined MediaWorks back in October 2016, my focus was to bring stability to a company that had been through years of turmoil and to get all arms of the business into a position where they would be sustainable and competitive in their own right.

“Fast forward to now and we have welcomed QMS into our family and alongside our radio business, they have come together into one building that allows collaboration across our brands.”

As the NZ Herald reports, MediaWorks latest financial result saw a $25.14 million loss, while the coronavirus pandemic has seen the company obtain $8.6m of wage subsidies.

130 staff were made redundant across radio and sales in June, while remaining employees were asked to take a voluntary 15% pay cut.
