Michael Gudinski’s state memorial to be streamed on SCA’s LiSTNR app
Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) new digital audio app LiSTNR will livestream the state memorial service of legendary music businessman Michael Gudinski tonight from 7pm.
“Michael Gudinski touched all of our lives, shaping our culture, with the unforgettable music released through his company Mushroom Records and all the mega artists he brought to Australia with the Frontier Touring Company,” LiSTNR publicity said.
Gudinski passed away earlier this month at the age of 68, sending shockwaves through the music, audio and live entertainment industries.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews then offered his family a state funeral to celebrate his life and achievements as the “beating heart of the Victorian [music] scene”.
SCA’s chief content officer, Dave Cameron, said he’s pleased to be able to bring the event to a wider audience.
“We are pleased to be able to stream on LiSTNR this special memorial service, so our audiences can hear and celebrate the extraordinary life of Michael,” he said.
“His dedication to Aussie music is something everyone who loves music will forever respect and we acknowledge him for his unrivalled impact on the lives of so many within the music industry.”
LiSTNR has already launched an exclusive podcast featuring old chats between Gudinski and long-time friend and broadcaster, Barry Bissell, titled Michael Gudinski: The Ultimate Music Man.
Rival app iHeartRadio from the Australian Radio Network (ARN) also launched a pop-up tribute station featuring all the music Gudinski championed over his career.
And this morning, ARIA renamed its Best Breakthrough Artist Award in honour of the deceased, with it to be called the Michael Gusinski Breakthrough Artist ARIA Award.
