Mikey D replaced by Jess Window on JOY FM Breakfast

Former Assistant Editor
Joy 94.9, JOY FM

Jess Window has been announced as the new co-host for Tom Walsh on JOY 94.9 Breakfast.

Mikey D has announced that he will be leaving Tom next week, also marking 40 episodes of the show for the pair. Mikey is leaving to take up a job as a DJ and entertainer of a major cruise line.

JOY daytime music presenter Jess will now join former Gogglebox star Tom Walsh on JOY’s Thursday Breakfast show.

“It’s really bittersweet to be leaving the Tom & Mikey team. They’ve treated me with nothing but respect and love, and not once did I ever feel like a 20-year-old on the show. They held me and my ideas in the highest regard,” said Mikey.

“I love working on Tom & Mikey, and as a street team crew member at Southern Cross Austereo. They’re both things I’ve dreamt of doing since I was 12. I know I need to gain a whole heap of life experience before I’m ready to hit the commercial airwaves, so this was a necessary evil.

“Tom’s become my best mate throughout the last year.  Never in a million years would I have thought I’d be doing radio with someone who’s so funny, witty and kind, who’s also 30 years older than me!”

Tom thanked Mikey for his service and the fun they’ve had. “I extend my gratitude to DJ Mikey D for a fabulous ten months of fantastic radio.  His youth and enthusiasm brightened my morning each and every time we hit the airwaves.

“He’s taught me so much about making breakfast radio that I’ve been so proud to share with our audience.  I wish him all the best on his next adventure and know the world is getting one very special entertainer.”

Jess is familiar with the show already, having presented the Morning show. “Having the pleasure to get to know Jess, and now excited to call her my friend, I have all the confidence that we’re going to rule the airwaves,” says Tom.

“With her extraordinary knowledge in radio and her unbelievable life experience, I’m so looking forward to see what magic we’ll create together.”

Jess adds; “I joined JOY because I wanted to stay close to home, keep up my radio skills, have time to watch my kiddo grow before she starts school next year, and to do something for my community.

“Being one of two mums has reminded me that my community is really important and imperative for my daughter to grow up in, so she can feel as much a part of it as both my partner and I.

“I think it’s also pretty cool to hear voices from as many different backgrounds as possible, and with so many wonderful rainbow families popping up, it’s great to be able to represent.”

Tom & Jess begins on November 21, from 6:30am-9am on Joy 94.9 Melbourne or at joy.org.au
