Multiple redundancies at NOVA Entertainment this week

Former Assistant Editor

With metro radio ad revenue on the decline, NOVA Entertainment appears to be the next radio network to undergo a restructure.

The news follows Radio Today‘s revelation last week that Nova 100’s Matt Tilley won’t be returning to the station in 2020.

In a statement, a spokesperson for NOVA Entertainment blamed the “tough economic environment” as the cause for change.

“We are operating in a tough economic environment and media companies, like many others, have been impacted.

“As part of the ongoing review of its operations and after careful consideration, Nova Entertainment has made some changes to staff structures for 2020 and this has led to some redundancies across the business.

“We continue to believe in the strength of radio and its future in a digital world and our plans in 2020 will reflect that with continued investments in digital and audio.”

Southern Cross Austereo is in the process of making up to 90 roles redundant following an internal view.

Irene Hulme and Wil Anderson have also left SCA in the last week.

At ARN, the 97.3FM Breakfast show has been axed, while Mix 102.3’s John Bleby has left after a station restructure.

Not surprising …..I wonder if all the trolls at Nova who critised SCA last week are still employed or just gone quiet!

Why does every feel the need to dumb crap on SCA last week saying it’s “all bad management” and then Nova has to do the same. Where are those people now!??? Maybe those that feel the need to compete so badly should be more concerned with the industry as a whole. It’s a worry that the commercial dollar isn’t there!

Nova Entertainment made an additional 10+ roles redundant throughout this year (2019) that were kept very quiet.

Feeling for everyone whose been affected across SCA, ARN and Nova these past couple of weeks and for those left uncertain. Yep, times are changing and we’ve got to fight to exist and evolve but these last few weeks remind us there are humans involved in this, good creative ones too. Now isn’t the time to be tribal, but communal.

These comments are all a bit petty. The sad things is the industry is in bad shape and it absolutely sucks doing this right before Xmas. I think SCA gets the most negative for 2 reasons. 1) Their our sihz don’t stink attitude. 2) Way more employees than the rest of the networks. BTW their shiz does stink and your attitude doesn’t match you ratings and the sooner that attitude is knocked out of the place the better for the industry. Hope everyone finds a gig in 2020.

How’s Nova gonna run without a CD or ACD??

So Nova Melbourne CD gets axed just before his breakfast show he’s been working with for years goes number one. And during his tenure his opposition Fox records lowest ratings ever. Nice work Rohan Brown.
Chrissie Sam and Browny will miss you.
If this is what happens to you when you succeed at Nova then I would hate to see what happens if you fail. One of the other network will pick up Rohan soon enough.
Brutal industry.
