Nine wins Sales Team of the Year at Mumbrella Awards

Nine’s integrated sales team, including radio and TV, has won Sales Team of the Year at the 2020 Mumbrella Awards.

The media company’s sales team was up against PLAYGROUND XYZ, REA Group, The Trade Desk and Verizon Media.

“In a tough category, the sales team at Nine proved the scale of impact you can deliver when you start with people. Nine have successfully integrated multiple businesses with significantly different cultures together, and created a unified media platform offering a full-service suite of products,” the category judges said.

Nine has been in the process of transforming its sales team and offering since fully absorbing Macquarie Media.

In May, radio sales boss Penny Kaleta exited after less than five months with the broadcaster so it could move to a cross-platform structure.

Richard Hunwick subsequently took over as the lead across television and radio sales.

Recently, Nine has announced it’s looking to ‘simplify’ its radio buying process through the use of its 9Galaxy platform, which automates buying for marketers and media agencies.

It’s also bringing 9Voyager – a self-serve automated buying platform for small business owners – to radio.

Nine’s recent annual report flagged that it wants its radio stations to command a larger share of the radio advertising market, noting that profitability was “disappointing”.

The Studio at SCA was also up for an award in the Best Use of User Experience category for its Pictures That Speak campaign which it worked on in collaboration with Alkira and Publicis Worldwide for the Queensland Eye Institute Foundation.

The Mumbrella Award for Best Use of User Experience, however, was won by Hyundai for its Customer-Centric Experiences That Delivered Results with Orchard.

The judges said it was a “tightly fought category”.

The virtual ceremony was hosted by radio host and podcaster, Ash London.
