Talent Watch: No love lost as Thinkergirls are axed at KIIS

Staff Writer

It appears Nova and Gold aren’t the only networks dealing with departures today, with one Radio Today source informing us that The Thinkergirls have been axed, effective immediately.

And this is certainly not the first rumbling of their exit. In fact, we first heard this was on the cards as far back as August.

Radio Today understands you won’t be hearing Stacey June and Kristie Mercer on-air tonight.

The Thinkergirls burst onto the scene in January 2016, off the back of their podcast and video series of the same name.

“I know our listeners are going to love their unique and hilarious take on the world,” ARN National Content Director Duncan Campbell said at the time of announcement.

“The Thinkergirls will bring yet another dimension to the KIIS Network with their honest, real-life content both on-air and online.”

Since then, the only other time listeners have hear the pair outside of their nightly show was back in July, then they covered the drive timeslot during the survey break in July.

It’s unclear whether the pair’s scheduled “Posse Podcast” live event will still go ahead later this month, however their KIIS show is not associated with the event in any way.

In a statement late on Friday, ARN revealed that the show would be replaced by a new nights entertainment show Celeb HQ headlined by Zoe Marshall and John ‘JC’ Caldwell.

“I would like to thank The Thinkergirls – Stacey June and Kristie Mercer – for being part of the KIIS team for the past two years,” ARN National Content Director Duncan Campbell said.

“They have delivered a uniquely entertaining show to a loyal audience and we are working together to explore opportunities for the future.”

Massive fan of these ladies and very sad to see them go so abruptly! These two are super talented and were wasted on KIIS.. hope they land somewhere better very soon.

Terrible show – don’t even know how they stayed for as long as they did.. their ratings were bad and their social media stuff struggled to hit 20 likes.

These ladies are very talented, they just needed a little help with the content. I hope they find a spot that will Help them to develop . Replacing them with the talentless Zoe Marshall is a big mistake. She’s up there with the ever-boring Sam Frost.

100% agree with Alli.
Pretty much just burning money…

Has ARN not watched the disaster that SCA has gone through this style of programming over past few years…
“Hey DMG take our ratings and money…” we don’t need it we have Zoe Marshall.

I thought they were sensational and listened to them every night, I am 52 and thought they bought up issues everybody wanted to know and hear about, it was a sensational show and I am missing them so much, stay strong you girls, somebody else will pick up on all the good stuff and take you on. I felt like my girls were here chatting to me and not living in the UK and living their lives, I am so proud of my independent girls, living the life. They bought up so many issues that are current to teenagers and young adults. Cheers Amanda

Why can’t I find a radio station that just plays good 80’s to now music without the hosts being the center of the show with their stupid content ? It seems to me that the FM band is being turned into talk back radio. Or the station that used to Rock has turned into a “let’s talk about sport” and promote online betting…..Yuk !
