Zinc 96 brekkie duo Nugget & Al celebrate radio anniversary

Staff Writer

Zinc 96 Breakfast team Nugget & Al have ended an amazing 12 years together today, walking the streets of Gympie to raise more than $12,000 for IFYS Foster Care.

The duo will make the move to Drive on sister station Hot 91 next month.

The initial goal of raising $10,000 to walk 10,000 metres (or 10 kilometres) was surpassed before the boys even tied up their sneakers on Friday (September 19), a testament to the popularity of the duo.

The final tally was $12,573 with more money still expected to come in.

This morning live on-air, Nugget & Al walked 10 kilometres across the streets of their heartland Gympie for their final farewell and were blown away by the support they received on the road.

“We had so many people stop to give us donations. I reckon I had about $1,000 in my pants and this time it wasn’t from tips,” Nugget said.

The pair have been blown away by the generosity of the local community donating to their last Zinc 96 campaign, and explain how the fundraising will help provide loving homes for Gympie foster kids.

“These amazing families really rely on the support of IFYS Foster Care. If they need something at the drop of a hat, that’s who they call. $10,000 will help give IFYS Foster Care resources…everything from toiletries to school camps,” Nugget & Al said, adding that they hope to see the fundraising tally continue to climb over the next few days.

The duo will make the move to Drive on sister station Hot 91 next month with Steve ‘Bilko’ Bilokin already confirmed to replace them on Breakfast from October 6.
