Former SMH executive Penny Kaleta to lead radio sales for Nine
A new day brings more news from the Macquarie Media camp.
Nine has just named Penny Kaleta as sales director for its newly acquired radio assets.
Kaleta will oversee sales for 2GB Sydney, 3AW Melbourne, 4BC Brisbane, 6PR Perth, Macquarie Sports Radio and all digital assets.
The seasoned media executive will be up against tough market conditions, as evidenced in the September quarter figures released by Commercial Radio Australia in October.
For the past five years, Kaleta has led Australian Community Media’s sales team and was a co-founder and key driver of the recent Boomtown initiative.
“Penny is an exceptional sales leader and I can’t wait for her to join Nine to lead our radio sales team,” said Michael Stephenson, Nine’s chief sales officer.
“She has an exceptional reputation in both the direct and agency markets across the country and a proven track record in leading high-performance teams and strategic projects.”
Nine have also confirmed that it plans to move radio sales staffers into Nine sales offices early in the new year, to join its television, digital and publishing teams.
Kaleta, who has previously held key sales roles at The Sydney Morning Herald and EMAP in London, is ready for the challenge ahead.
“I am so pleased to be joining Nine and leading the radio sales team,” she said. “Brands like 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR have a direct conversation with their audiences and their communities and I’m excited about what this means for brands.
“I can’t wait to unlock this potential for advertisers on radio and I’m excited about how we extend those opportunities across the Nine family.”
Nine says it has also extended its client solutions division Powered to include “radio specialism” and has begun work on building out 9Galaxy.
9Galaxy is the media empire’s technology platform that aspires to simplify the buying of live, live-streaming and on-demand radio inventory across the Macquarie stations.
