“The results speak for themselves”: Heidi Everett on the success of RTI ahead of their next pop-up station

Former Features Editor

Students from the Radio Training Institute are preparing to launch a pop-up station from 6am tomorrow, but it’s just one glimpse of how the educators are supporting the next generation of radio stars.

Running until October 29, RTI FM will be manned by five of the brightest personalities Melbourne has to offer – Aimee CraigConnor ‘Rodge’ RogersKane ‘Risky’ RiskLeisha Brodyk and Jayden Sheppard – with the group covering all shifts from breakfast right through to the drive home.

According to RTI general manager Heidi Everett, the station – which was last on-air back in July – offers students a unique experience before heading out into the workforce.

“It’s an opportunity to showcase their radio skills in a real live broadcast and for Content Directors to tune in and check out the next batch of radio stars,” she told Radio Today.

While some of RTI’s past students have landed big jobs in the industry – including The Thinkergirls’ Kristie Mercer, Hit 929 Perth CD Amanda Lee and Hit 104.7 Canberra’s Ryan Jon – there is still more that can be done to support future students coming through.

“From RTI’s perspective, we need to continue to offer the highest quality training, taught by the industries best so we can continue to feed the industry with great talent,” Everett added.

“The results speak for themselves. We are getting so many students employed and I’m not seeing a decline in job opportunities.”

You can tune in to hear the stream by searching for “ACE RTI FM” on Shoutcast from 6am October 27.
