SCOOP: hit106.9’s Sophie Tiller parts ways with Newcastle station

Former Features Editor

If you tuned into Newcastle’s hit106.9 this morning, you would have noticed one voice was missing from the mix – Sophie Tiller’s.

That’s because she announced her departure yesterday morning.

After being present for the transition from NFXM to the Hit branding, as well as the introduction of fellow co-hosts Nick Gill in late 2015 and Simon Baggs earlier this year, Tiller leaves the breakfast post after almost five years.

Calls from listeners flooded in yesterday morning following the announcement, with many getting emotional over the news.

According to NSW Regional General Manager (SCA Newcastle) Ashley Myatt, Sophie has been a valued member of the Hit106.9 family.

“Her larger than life presence on air, off air and online has left a mark on the Newcastle community and we wish her all the best for the future.”

Nick Gill and Simon Baggs will continue to host the breakfast show until the end of the year, with a new line up for the Hit106.9 breakfast show will be announced in due course.

After the emotional news, Tiller also took to Instagram after the show to express her heartfelt thanks to her listeners.
