Simon Greally returns to radio as creative director of 2DayFM

Former Editor & Content Director

2DayFM has revealed a host of staffing changes as it gears up for its revamped Breakfast show in the new year, Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed & Erin.

As part of the changes, Simon Greally is returning to radio as creative director of the station. He will oversee the day-to-day of 2Day and work Breakfast hours with the team as an additional support.

Greally started his radio career at Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Triple M and 2DayFM. He moved across to Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) KIIS with the Kyle & Jackie O Show as the executive producer in 2014.

He left that role in 2015 and was replaced by Nic McClure before Kyle Sandilands’ now-manager Bruno Bouchet took on the gig.

Following his time on The Kyle & Jackie O Show, Greally was chief marketing officer at West HQ, which has assets including Novotel Hotel Western Sydney, Rooty Hill RSL and multiple venues and restaurants. He then became CEO of independent marketing and data science agency Indy in January last year.

Head of the Hit Network Gemma Fordham noted Greally’s talents and expertise.

“Simon has 10 years’ experience in radio and is one of the most talented and creative programmers going around,” she said. “Many of us have worked with him before and know what a huge asset he will be to the 2DayFM team. We now continue our exciting new chapter in 2021 full of expertise, creativity and enthusiasm.”

In addition, Violet Merhi, currently the EP of Ash London Live will step into the role at Morning Crew. Long-serving content manager of Hughesy & Ed Sacha French will continue in her role, as will 2Day producer Alexandra Carlon, and audio producer Chris Kubacki.

The show is also recruiting a digital producer.

SCA said both Ellie Angel and Mike Christian (MC) remain critical components to the on-air sound of 2Day, and will work afternoons and weekends on air. MC will run from Sunday to Tuesday, while Ellie takes on Wednesday to Saturday.

Content director Matthew ‘Eggo’ Eggleston’s role “is getting busier”, SCA said, so he will now focus on the national operations manager side of things.

Fordham also thanked current 2DayFM Breakfast host and veteran programmer Jamie Angel for his efforts, and revealed his place in the company under the new regime.

“Along with the breakfast team, I wanted to take this opportunity again to thank Jamie Angel for the incredible job he has done over the past 18 months, it was a leap of faith by JA to join us and we are so glad you did it JA. Jamie will host mornings from 9am and will continue to work with myself on creative scripting for the Hit network,” she said.
