Spirit Karratha cold calls Radio Chaser’s Charles Firth on his now-public phone number

Former Assistant Editor

It’s been a whirlwind week for The Chaser‘s Charles Firth, so Pablo from Spirit Radio Karratha in Western Australia decided to see how it was all going by giving him a buzz.

Last Friday, Firth projected Alan Jones‘ real phone number onto the Sydney Opera House, following a now infamous interview between Jones and Opera House CEO Louise Herron.

That led to an interview on Studio 10 during which host Kerri-Anne Kennerley forced the Radio Chaser host to give out his own number.

102.5 FM Spirit Karratha Breakfast host Pablo Miller called the number, not expecting Charles to answer.

“I didn’t think you’d answer the phone!” said Pablo in shock.

“I haven’t been answering my phone,” Charles replied. “I just thought oh well, what the hell.”

Pablo then asked Charles what the response had been like and how many people had been calling the now public number.

“I’ve been inundated, it’s been astounding. I had no idea that many people watched Studio Ten.

“It has literally been thousands… but 99% of them have been ‘good work Chaser!’

“It’s actually been the loveliest few days of my life. Every hour I get 60 or 70 text messages saying I’m really great!”

With this week being mental health week, Pablo also took the opportunity to share his experiences with depression, and how hard it’s been to remain the bubbly happy guy that wakes up the Pilbara every day on radio.

Catch up with his mental health story here.
