The Squiz launches Sport Today podcast via Acast

There’s another daily podcast in the mix, but this time it’s about sport.

The Squiz, already an early-morning daily news podcast, has recently added Sport Today to its portfolio.

It will be distributed via Acast and already has a launch partner on board, Kayo Sports. Its hosts, Greg Elliott and Gemma Ryan, will “keep sports lovers on the ball with independent and agenda-free analysis of the day’s biggest sporting news”, Acast said.

Acast said it expects the new title to become Australia’s leading daily sports podcast.

Founder of The Squiz, Claire Kimball, said: “Our thing at The Squiz is making sense of the cluttered news cycle coming at our podcast listeners and newsletter subscribers each day. Sport Today will do that for sport fans who want more than results and opinion. In less than 10 minutes each weekday, we’ll take you through the headlines, and unpick what makes sporting disciplines across Australia and the world tick.”

Podcast director, Kate Watson, added: “Greg and Gemma have been mates their whole life, they’re sport lovers through and through who will make sense of everything from the days results to the business of the sport, the administration and the machinations – with a touch of the quirky too. We’re excited to have them as part of The Squiz and know they’ll bring a fresh approach to how sport loving Aussies – and those who just don’t want to be left out of the sports chat – consume sports news.”

Guy Scott-Wilson, content director for Acast Australia and New Zealand, noted: “Australians love their sport, yet there aren’t many sporting podcasts to serve this incredibly captive audience in Australia. The Squiz has a fantastic track not only delivering great news, but reaching a massive engaged audience at scale. We’re thrilled to be leading the charge and offering Aussies incredible sporting news content with The Squiz.”

Pretty sure that will have the trademark lawyers all over it given it’s the name of a well known radio program.
