Spotify’s aggressive push into the podcasting space has gone up a gear, with the streaming giant to acquire Parcast.

The latest move follows several recent appointments in their podcasting department, as it looks to build its original podcast catalogue.

Parcast is a premier storytelling-driven podcast studio, based largely in true crime, having launched 18 premium podcast series including Serial Killers, Unsolved Murders, Cults and Conspiracy Theories since 2016.

Its entire library of shows with engaged, loyal audiences will now fall under the Spotify banner. This includes more than 20 new shows slated to launch later this year.

“The addition of Parcast to our growing roster of podcast content will advance our goal of becoming the world’s leading audio platform,” said Spotify chief content officer Dawn Ostroff.

“Crime and mystery podcasts are a top genre for our users and Parcast has had significant success creating hit series while building a loyal and growing fan base. We’re excited to welcome the Parcast team to Spotify and we look forward to supercharging their growth.”

The sale is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2019.
