Steve Price lands Triple M Melbourne gig after 2GB axing [updated]

When the price is right, call Steve.

An ill-fated stint on 2GB Afternoons hasn’t dampened Steve Price’s resolve, with the radio and TV host landing some new gigs with Southern Cross Austereo.

The Australian reports that Price will appear weekly on Triple M Melbourne’s Breakfast show.

SCA has since confirmed to Radio Today that Price has landed a regular guest spot on Eddie McGuire’s show.

“On Triple M’s Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy in 2020, following the departure of Wil Anderson, we have been open about our approach and there are a number of guests that we’re rotating through the show each day, week and month,” said Triple M Melbourne’s head of content, Dan Bradley.

“Steve Price is one of those guests, along with about 15 or 20 others who we welcome to the extended Triple M Hot Breakfast collection of guests.”

Price is reportedly also set to appear across SCA’s PodcastOne network, according to The Australian.

The host left his long-time slot of Nights with Macquarie Media last July, replacing Chris Smith on 2GB and 4BC Afternoons.

Following the rebranding of Macquarie to Nine Radio, Price confirmed he would not return in 2020, with Nine revealing Deb Knight as his replacement.

The Australian also suggests that Price has managed to get a cool $500,000 paycheck from Nine, which includes his entire year’s salary for 2020, and without a non-compete clause.

The report elaborates that Price’s TV commitments could also increase, with an expanded role on The Project and also with the potential for deals with other networks.

Looks like yet another band aid for an old ailing show that has no future. Come on SCA it’s 2020 not 1980.

Good one Triple M. If I was Eddie I’d watch my back. Steve would make an excellent host of breakfast.

@David there’s rumours that Pricey will end up with a bigger role at Triple M. Also someone said Ed might be off to 3AW in August.

2GB has become totally insane with their chess board antics. Steve Price belongs on Sydney Radio with his insightful commentary and common sense approach to every day issues. He can do handstands around Deb Knight, so woeful, so I have switched off 2GB in the afternoons.

Who is in charge of 2GB & 3AW? What were you thinking? Steve price in the evenings was the only program worth listening to. Dennis Walter belongs in the afternoons. Why the screeching females replacing them? Can’t stand listening to them. Have resorted to podcasts, at least I can hear the dulcet tones of men. Very few women have the voice or the attitude for radio. Big mistake 9. You will regret hopping on the me too wagon. The end is nigh.

Agree, unfortunately most women on radio sound screeching. Like others I have turned off.

Lynette and Lesley are absolutely correct. One doesn’t like saying this as a woman but it is true.
I can only think the reason for 2gb becoming so woman orientated so far as broadcasters are concerned is because they want to be woke. What do they say, go woke, go broke.

We will see.

Agree with Lesley & Lynette, Steve Price deserves to be in Sydney, he was popular, talented & very professional. Crazy move 2GB bring him back .. please ask listeners what we want .. my choice would have been Michael McLaren (Alan’s shoes) then Ray Hadley followed by Ben Fordham then Steve Price followed by John Stanley
