The Music Network Chart Wrap: Sept 12

In a new weekly piece in Radio Today, the crew from The Music Network will let us know what's going on in music with their Chart Wrap.

HOT 100

As prophesised in last weeks chart wrap, Katy Perry’s Roar has risen to first place this week in our Hot 100 – she’s beaten out Avicii’s Wake Me Up (#2) in just her fourth week at radio.

This is her fifth single to top our charts, joining previous efforts Teenage Dream, Firework, California Girls and Last Friday Night (TGIF). Roar also sits atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart and ARIA Singles chart, as well as at #2 on Music Week’s UK airplay chart. Jason Derulo and 2Chainz’ Talk Dirty has moved up to #3, Lana Del Rey and Cedric Gervais’ Summertime Sadness has climbed from #8 to #4, proving Gervais’ big room sound far more successful than the original, which failed to chart at all.

Ellie Goulding’s Burn has dropped from #3 to #5. Meanwhile, Avicii’s second single You Make Me has snuck inside the top 20, sitting at 17. Miley Cyrus has twerked and offended her way into our hearts, and a #30 debut, with her new single Wrecking Ball, proving once again that shock and awe definitely translates to radio play. Well played Miley, well played. HAIM have entered the charts at #34 with The Wire, after adds across the NOVA and Today networks over the last few weeks. Bruno Mars has also debuted within the top 40 at #37 with Gorilla, just behind his last single Treasure (#36), which peaked at #3.

Other debut’s this week include Drake’s Hold On, We’re Going Home #43, Eminem’s Berzerk #47, Taylor Swift’s Red #52, Ricki-Lee’s Come & Get In Trouble With Me #68, Miguel Adorn #70, Ray Foxx Boom Boom (Heartbeat) #74, and Rudimental’s Right Here at #76.

ARIA SINGLES

Katy Perry’s Roar, Jason Derulo & 2Chainz Talk Dirty and Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness have held their positions from last week: at #1, #2 and #3 respectively.

Eminem’s new single Berzerk is up 12 spots from last week’s debut position to hit #5. The Rick Rubin produced track is Eminem’s 12th single to crack the top 5 in the ARIA Singles Chart.

Rudimental collaborator John Newman’s Love Me Again has climbed to #6 this week, gathering steam over the last 9 weeks for his first solo top 10 appearance. Off the back of their current Aus promo tour, MKTO’s Classic is back to its previous peak of #9.

Avicii’s You Make Me is in at #12, mirroring the success of previous single Wake Me Up which is still sitting at #4. Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball has entered the charts at #15 and makes her 10th single to hit the ARIA top 50.

ARIA ALBUMS

Pink has returned to the top after 3 weeks! Let’s be honest, we missed her. This is her 10th week at the #1 spot and comes as she prepares to wrap up her monstrous 46-date national tour. The Truth About Love has spent more time at #1 than any of her other albums.

Nine Inch Nails Hesitation Marks debuts in third place; their first album in five years is their first appearance in the top three since The Fragile back in 1999. John Mayer’s Paradise Valley has been knocked down to #4, and Boy & Bear’s Harlequin Dream has held steady in fifth place.

Ariana Grande’s new album Yours Truly has debuted at #6, while Jungle Giants Learn To Exist debuts at #12, and The Paper Kites States has come in at #17. Great news for the two Australian indie bands.
