The Music Network Chart Wrap: Sept 3

In a new weekly piece in Radio Today, the crew from The Music Network will let us know what's going on in music with their Chart Wrap.

HOT 100

Avicii has won radio this week and entered the Hot 100 at #20 with his new single You Make Me. An unprecedented achievement considering he still holds the number one spot with Wake Me Up. One Republic has debuted at #28 with Something I Need, who have, let’s say, ‘pulled an Avicii’ as their previous single Counting Stars is still within the top 5. Katy Perry’s Roar has moved up 5 places to #2 in its third week in, could she be the one to finally steal 1st place from the greedy Swede? This chart wrap says, Yes. Burn by Ellie Goulding and Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo and 2 Chainz round out the top 5.

Notable movers this week include NoNoNo’s new tune Pumping Blood up to #34 from #66 the previous week, Paramore’s Ain’t No Fun continues to rise from #36 up to #24, Krewella’s Live For The Night has also breached the top 50 after being added to high rotation across most of the Nova stations; they currently sit at #41. Live For The Night is the 3rd single from their forthcoming album Get Wet, due for release later this month.

TOP SINGLE TO RADIO

Berzerk by Eminem (IGA/UMA)

Guess who's back? Back again, and receiving a lot of early radio love ahead of next week's official service to commercial radio. More Kid Rock, less classic-Shady, this track will still no dobut continue to find favour at radio.

ARIA SINGLES

Katy Perry has held strong for a second week in the top spot with Roar, following last week’s MTV VMA performance. The Cedric Gervais treatment of Summertime Sadness was clearly a winner for Lana Del Ray as it’s earned her a new peak position this week at #3, pat on the back Lana and Cedric. Jason Derulo and 2 Chainz’ Talk Dirty has managed to secure second place mirroring their success in the TMN Hot 100 and Avicii is down to #4. Lorde’s The Love Club EP is still hanging in the top 5, an amazing achievement from everyone’s favourite Kiwi.

Eminem’s Berzerk debuted at #17, it’s the first single from his forthcoming album The Marshall Mathers LP 2. Berzerk is his first track to chart since No Love back in 2010 and his 22nd single to place in the ARIA top 50. Something I Need from One Republic cracked the charts this week at #25.

ARIA ALBUMS

John Mayer’s 6th studio album Paradise Valley debuted at #1 this week. It’s his second consecutive #1 on the charts and his 5th album to place in the top 5. Avenged Sevenfold’s Hail To The King debuted in second place; it’s also their 6th album and their highest debut to date. Pink’s The Truth About Love, Fleetwood Mac’s 25 Years – The Chain and Harlequin Dream from Boy & Bear make up the top 5.

Ellie Goulding’s re-named and expanded edition of her second album Halcyon entitled Halcyon Days debuted in the 12th spot after the previous release only managed to get to 16. The current release features a bunch of bonus tracks including her current single Burn as well as all of the previous content. Franz Ferdinand’s new album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action has placed #18 this week, four years after their previous album Tonight: Franz Ferdinand back in 2009.
