Tom & Olly’s failed bid to front the Hit Network’s Drive show

Former Editor & Content Director

Tom Bainbridge and Oliver Morris have been unsuccessful in their bid to take on the coveted Drive slot across Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Hit Network.

The duo currently host the 10pm to 1am shift, but launched an online petition to take on the challenge of 5pm to 7pm instead.

“Tom & Olly are ready to tackle the big shift,” the post said. “Sign the petition and they’ll take it to the top.”

The petition has been live since Monday, and at time of writing has 165 signatures.

This morning, however, SCA confirmed the Carrie & Tommy program would be extended and run from 3pm to 6pm in 2021. The 6 o’clock hour will be filled by highlights from Sydney’s new Breakfast show The Morning Crew featuring Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan.

In the most recent radio ratings survey, Sydney’s 2Day FM had a 2.6% share in the evenings. GfK measures the Evening segment as 7pm to 12am, so this also factors in Ash London LIVE, which runs from 7pm to 10pm.

It had 4.6% in Melbourne on Fox FM, 9.7% in Brisbane on B105, 6.9% on SAFM, and 6.7% on Perth’s Hit 92.9.

SCA should support young talent like them instead of overpaying TV ‘ personalities ‘ who don’t rate.

It’s a shame Tom & Olly went over to lates on hit. They were great on nights on triple m. I miss them.

SCA should have taken a punt with these two in the 5pm-7pm slot. They appear hungry.

Dave Hughes gets paid $2 million a year regardless what he rates so he doesn’t really care.

ARN should grab them for the Gold Network at night.

Crawl before you walk??

Most people who have been thrown on to the 2Day Fm breakfast show have had no radio experience

How the hell is Carrie going to do The Project when the show finishes at 6pm? Pre-recorded?

Tom and Olly would be better than a rehashed breakfast show. They have experience and rapport. I guess they are hoping the fans of the current afternoon show will stay to listen to Sydney-centric repeats at 6pm?
