triple j announces 2018 Hottest 100 date

Former Assistant Editor

triple j‘s has announced that the 2018 Hottest 100 countdown will take place on Sunday, January 27.

The countdown will then continue onto the public holiday Monday when the Hottest 200 will be counted down.

Monday, January 28 will also see Double J throw back to 1998’s Hottest 100, in a Classic Countdown.

It’s the second year in a row that triple j have chosen not to hold their annual countdown on Australia Day, after a poll of listeners in 2017 found that 60% wanted the date changed as it was insensitive to indigenous people and their supporters.

Voting for the annual countdown opens at 8am on Monday, December 10 and will close on Tuesday, January 22 at 9am.

This year sees triple j team up with Lifelife, in response to a listener poll earlier this year that found that mental health is the biggest issue affecting young people right now.

Every year, Lifeline receives around one million calls, text messages and web chats, but does not currently have the capacity to answer them all.

triple j are selling Hottest 100 x Lifeline ice cream t-shirts to raise money, while listeners can also donate anytime.

The money raised will aim to help trained volunteers to reach around 4,000 more calls; to listen, provide connection, compassion and hope – ultimately saving Australian lives.

triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown starts at 12pm local time on Sunday, January 27 2019.
