11 years of The Hot Breakfast in 11 minutes

Staff Writer

This morning marked the end of long-running radio program The Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy.

To mark the occasion, the Melbourne Breakfast show aired a package showcasing 11 years of The Hot Breakfast in 11 minutes – although, it ran a little over time.

The package starts with Eddie’s first program and tracked its history including big announcements, international travel, and interviews gone wrong.

“Thank you, Melbourne. We sure had some fun along the way,” the package said.

“But now, it’s time to say goodbye.”

McGuire thanked the team and former contributors, including comedian Wil Anderson who featured on the program between 2017 and 2019, and Mick Molloy, who now co-hosts Triple M’s syndicated Drive show.

“And most importantly, thank you to you, Darce. Congratulations, mate. Watching your career go from being a retired footballer to being one of the great football callers, great hosts on Channel 7 on House of Wellness, and of course being a wonderful partner, and you’re a great man, and it’s been a pleasure to come in here every day,” he said.

Darcy echoed the sentiment.

“When you spend time with the McGuire family, you get an insight into the person you are, and the amount of time we have together has been a greta joy, and thank you so much for the opportunity,” he said.

The new Triple M Melbourne Breakfast lineup has not been announced, but McGuire said: “And whoever picks up the microphone, and puts the headphones on here at Triple M’s Breakfast show next year, we wish them the best of luck, and hope that they have half the fun and resonance that we’ve been able to have in our time.”

McGuire previously told Nova Drive show Kate, Tim & Joel he “doesn’t want to know” who his replacement is, lest he spoil the surprise.
