‘Up The Guts’ with Dean Thomas
After four years as anchor of the Nova 100 Breakfast show, Dean ‘Deano’ Thomas is stepping out of the long shadows cast by Chrissie Swan, Jonathon Brown and Sam Pang.
He’s earned himself a seat at the desk of FOX FOOTY’s new, live Friday night show Up The Guts which at first glance appears to be an odd name for a TV show.
But as Deano explains, it’s Aussie Rules slang.
“It’s an old saying. If you go ‘Up The Guts’, you go directly down the field. If you’re kicking out from fullback, you go ‘up the guts’ and straight down the middle.”
The show is hosted by Triple M’s Lawrence Mooney and will air every Friday night during the AFL season. He’s promised an irreverent take on the game – much like how fans will have a go at the umpire, the opposition and each other.
For Thomas, he reckons his new TV career was a happy accident.
“I had this footy show I made last year with Franco Cozzo – it was called ‘Deano’s Footy Show’. Lawrence saw that and said ‘let’s just get him in and sees how he goes on TV’.
“It was all an accident. I should not be on!!! I’m really chuffed. I can’t wait to do some stupid things on TV. We’ll just see how it goes.”
Up The Guts premieres tonight on Fox Footy 504 at 10.45pm.
