Les Hay passed away last weekend at the age of 97.

Les had a long and successful career in the industry. He started in 1952 at 2UW after a decade in newspapers. He joined 2SM in 1960 working with the “Good Guys” and while there Les pioneered the Adult Orientated Rock (AOR) format.

Radio Sales was one of Les’ strengths, working as Sales Manager at both 2UW and 2SM.

In 1980 he launched his own multi-media company ARMS working with a number of stations including 2UE.

In an interview with the Australian Film and Sound Archive, Les talks about the people he worked with at 2UW at the time, including Sir Lincoln Hynes, Bert Robertson, Des Mahon, Alan Toohey, Bill Hardy and Reg Grundy.

Les Hay’s funeral will be held on Monday 5th January from 11am  at Northern Suburbs Crematorium.
