“There will be a local show on GOLD 104.3 in Melbourne in 2018…”: Duncan Campbell

Since the news broke that ARN had inexplicably decided not to renew the contracts of Gold 104.3 breakfast duo Jo and Lehmo, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive at warp speed.

The whisper gaining the most traction is that WSFM’s Amanda and Jonesy could be networked into Melbourne from Sydney.

The speculation has prompted a response from ARN’s national content director Duncan Campbell. He says there will be a local show on Gold 104.3 in Melbourne next year and has promised an announcement “shortly”.

“There will be a local show on GOLD 104.3 in Melbourne in 2018, and we’ll share more on these plans shortly,” he told SMH.

He’s denied any plans to bring Amanda and Jonesy to Melbourne and insists there have been no discussions regarding syndication.

“No discussions have taken place regarding the syndication of Jonesy and Amanda into Melbourne,” he said.

It’s wouldn’t be the first time a high-profile breakfast show is taken to another city. Triple M tried it with Richard Stubbs back in the 90’s and it didn’t work well in either Sydney or Melbourne.
