Former Assistant Editor
i98's Marty, Christie & Crammy

i98 FM is Wollongong’s #1 commercial radio station, with the latest Xtra Insights ratings survey results released today.

Although a number of Sydney stations are available in some areas of the Illawarra, local stations are consistently listened to most, and today’s survey reflects the strength of local radio.

WIN-owned station i98 FM is still the top station, with 29.1% (+1.7) of survey participants aged 10+ indicating that it was the station they listened to most.

The WAVE FM was in second place with 16.2% (+0.6), while Wollongong remains a stronghold for triple j in third place on FM with 9.2% (+0.9).

ABC Illawarra is in third place overall.

The overall results were reflected on Breakfast and Drive too.

i98’s Marty, Christie & Crammy are #1 on Breakfast, ahead of Jade, Trav & Chris on WAVE FM 96.5.

The latest survey for the region included 1,200 respondents and took place between October 15 and November 3.

“Wollongong commercial stations are always well represented at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards and are a big part of the local community,” said CRA chief executive officer  Joan Warner

Xtra Insights regional surveys do not produce a traditional share figure.

Instead, the regional survey is based on stations listened to most rather than share.

The final two Xtra Insights surveys for the year will cover Townsville and Bendigo.

Imagine if Grants actually cared about having a radio station in one of the biggest provincial areas in the country.
