ATN criticism deepens

Staff Writer

The Crikey website have been following the story of Jason Bouman's (pictured) claims against the Australian Traffic Network in great detail. You can read Radio Today's earlier piece on the story here.

Crikey have interviewed a number of former ATN staff over the internal culture at the company and they have described it in less than glowing terms.

They claim that numerous advertisers have expressed concern over the ATN operation which was descibed as representing 'the worst excesses of commercial radio's notorious culture".

Former Sydney traffic reporter John Costello has told Crikey;

"They’re very aggressive, the executives give the impression they’re highly educated but in fact they’re not. Some of the current people that are managing the company … I wouldn’t have put them in that position”.

There are numerous former staffers quoted, and most named, in the Crikey article which is particularly critical of ATN CEO Bill Pezzimenti.

Jason Bouman is suing ATN for $50,000 after he was fired from his high-profile reporting role on Channel 9 and bumped onto a lower ranked position, to be replaced by 'a hot young blonde'. The case is scheduled to appear in the NSW Administrations Decisions Tribunal in October.
