Hot 30 prank call Kate Middleton's hospital

Mel Greig and new Hot 30 host MC prank called Kate Middleton’s nurse last night, with Mel pretending to be the Queen and MC as Prince Charles.

Althought the accents were terrible, the very nervous nurse seemed to believe them and had a chat, revealing a little too much information.

“She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night, she’s been given some fluids, she’s stable at the moment. I would suggest that any time after 9 o'clock will be suitable to visit… we’ll be getting her freshened up… Will went home at about 9 o'clock last night. She’s quite stable she hasn’t had any retching with me and she’s been sleeping on and off…”

Listen to the prank call...

UPDATED 5/12
It is now close to midnight in Australia and this story has taken the UK media by storm. With articles in every publication you can imagine with many people very irate over the prank.

The Summer 30 (Hot 30) has taken to Twitter to say:

“2Day FM sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused by the enquiry to Kate’s hospital, the radio segment was done with the best intentions and we wish Kate and her family all the best.”

MC and Mel have also said on the BBC website: "We were very surprised that our call was put through, we thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We're very sorry if we've caused any issues and we're glad to hear that Kate is doing well."

UPDATED 6/12

The ACMA have released a statement saying:

"The Australian Communications and Media Authority (the ACMA) has received complaints overnight regarding the 2Day FM prank call to the King Edward VII Hospital in London.

Under the co-regulatory model, code complaints should first go to the licensee. If a complainant is dissatisfied with the response, then a complaint can be made to the ACMA.

The 'privacy' provisions of the Commercial Radio Codes of Practice apply to news and current affairs programs.

The ACMA has no further comment to make on the matter at this time."

UPDATED 8/12

In what is a very sad turn of events, one of the hospital staff who took the Hot 30's prank call earlier this week, has died in a suspected suicide. Read about it here

nicola dominey (10:37pm 05 Dec 2012)
That's out of order and I hope you get sued.
POMME (10:39pm 05 Dec 2012)
Disgusting that you find that funny.
Anonymous (10:47pm 05 Dec 2012)
How is this funny? I'm a republican, but do you yahoos really have nothing better to do with your show than harass a sick pregnant woman and her family whilst she's in hospital?

Dregs of your profession, the pair of you. Hope your silly little ratings stunt blows up in your faces.
Anonymous (10:54pm 05 Dec 2012)
My normally upbeat sense of humour has failed me here. You called a sick pregnant woman's hospital room pretending to be family and got her personal medical info? Seriously?
Jason Staveley (11:29pm 05 Dec 2012)
Prank calls have been a part of radio since Adam had a phone unit installed at Eden FM.......

When it's on this scale, publicity is guaranteed I guess. The story is breaking in London right now.....

The 'colonials are up to their usual brash' antics.
Rodger Thornhill (11:34pm 05 Dec 2012)
well done, you probably got some one sacked. Lucky the economy is so good there, sure she will pick up another gig.
Idiots
david hoar (11:50pm 05 Dec 2012)
Pathetic / Childish and a huge breach of patient confidentiality . Should be prosecuted.
Jay (12:02am 06 Dec 2012)
Looks like nobody found this prank funny... Hope whoever thought this idea would be funny in the first place feels incredibly stupid now. I'm with Nicola - hope you get sued!
Anonymous (12:41am 06 Dec 2012)
People have been sacked and threatened for a lot less.. Yet you watch these two get away with it. SCA need to make examples of these two no matter how long the shows been on air!
Tony Weaver (12:53am 06 Dec 2012)
I'm English & live in the UK, even i thought the prank was brilliant. Well Done MC & Mel :-)
Steve From The UK (12:58am 06 Dec 2012)
Nice to see the Hot 30 getting a mention in British press, its one of my fav Aussie radio shows.
Matty Acton (1:17am 06 Dec 2012)
Ha hah ahah Another great segment from the Hot 30. We'd do anything for ratings.
Anonymous (1:21am 06 Dec 2012)
Lighten up people!!!!!!!!! !!! What's your problem she is in hospital with morning sickness, everyone gets it but she gets special treatment! This is a funny prank and has caused no one any harm! Long live the aussies!
Anonymous (1:32am 06 Dec 2012)
Disgusting. Not funny at all. I think they should be sacked for what they did.
Kyle (1:46am 06 Dec 2012)
There is a line, and SCA has crossed it.. Again.
They need to be made examples of.
Anonymous (1:46am 06 Dec 2012)
People need to lighten up. Its the Hospital's fault for not catching on to the ridiculous accents of the hosts and for so easily offering up patient information. As if the Queen would call the hospital directly anyway.
Manchester England (1:48am 06 Dec 2012)
Fantastic, well done.. It's only a bit of harmless fun..
Brian Luedke RN (1:50am 06 Dec 2012)
The nurse was dumb for not verifying patient consent and caller identity. It's standard procedure in the U.S. to ask for a password. The hospital should have reinforced staff training on this, given the presence of the royals.
Anonymous (1:58am 06 Dec 2012)
“2Day FM sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused by the enquiry to Kate’s hospital, the radio segment was done with the best intentions and we wish Kate and her family all the best.”

"Mel and MC have also said on the BBC website: "We were very surprised that our call was put through, we thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We're very sorry if we've caused any issues and we're glad to hear that Kate is doing well."

If you were that sorry, you wouldn't have done it in the first place because you'd have been mindful of the consequences to both hospital staff with already enough to deal with, and an ill woman who's got enough to deal with without overgrown seven year olds making her the butt of their so-called joke.

What "best intentions" would those be? Did you imitate her in-laws to get through to Kate and tell her to get well soon? I very much doubt it. If you had that much shock or any doubts about how far you were getting, you could've put the 'phone down at any point.

But no. And that's because the only "best intentions" at work here involved cheap sensationalism and your own ratings and profile.

As it is, you've caused an awful lot of inconvenience to people with better things to do because a sick pregnant woman's private medical details are somehow now "funny", and blagging them is apparently acceptable if it gets a laugh.

Tell me, what colour is the sky on your planet?

Cretins producing cretinous "entertainm ent" for cretins. Sack the presenters and anyone involved who okayed this cruel and stupid idea at any stage. They all had the choice not to participate.
Shaun R. (2:05am 06 Dec 2012)
That's got to be the worst accents going! Great fun to hear the panic in the voices of the staff at the hospital!

Well done!
Anonymous (2:17am 06 Dec 2012)
I'm going to enjoy the fallout over this.
Anonymous (2:24am 06 Dec 2012)
Funny how they are sorry buy you can still listen to the call on there website .....
