New digital station launches

This afternoon a new digital station launched.

Australia's #1 Bird Sounds station has been removed after a week or so of broadcasting non-stop bird noises.

SCA have now launched 'Stardust Radio' which seems to be all about the big band style - playing 'The Greatest Songs of All Time'.

Here are a selection of songs played in the first half hour.....

The imaging is old school American jingle style.

It sounds like stepping back in time and listening to U.S. radio in 1955.....but in DAB+

Good on SCA for launching Stardust Radio onto the DAB platform. An ad and announcer free alternative to Fairfax Radio's Magic. Thanks for providing song title and artist info. Wouldn't it be KOOOL if you provided same - frustrating and NOT KOOOL not to provide song title and artist info. What's the use? And the same applies to Fairfax's Buckle - so user Unfriendly - DAB lives forever.

Once again, Austereo focus their energy in misguided ways. They are so competitor focused that they have created a DAB station that plays songs from DMG's Smoothfm. Etta James, buble,Sinatra..all songs I have heard on smooth.

I quite like it. It's a change from rock, pop, rap, disco, bubblegum, Bieber, OD, etc.
If promoted it may catch on for those of us who are sick of mainstream music as dictated by focus groups.

Seems bizarre that they've launched without a website or Facebook presence. Personally I think it sounds more like 2ch/4bh than Smooth.

Not too bad at all.

Though I'm not in the station's demographic target range, I was really enjoying the mix.

In fact, I also really enjoy those old-school jingles :)

The only downside (as with all the new digital stations) is no news (not even just a 30 second headline update) and weather during breakfast.

had a listen the first night sounds better then the hip hop crap on other stations
but the next morning heard some of the same tracks from the night before.
it's a real shame stations have to play their top tracks over and over.
i thought the idea was to keep listeners, not to turn them off, if stations keep playing tracks over and over
people will go else where

we need more stations that play older music from the 50's 60's and 70's

Hi,
It would be good if Stardust'ld play "San Francisco" by Scot McKenzie and also "Like a bridge over troubled waters" by Simon and Garfuncle.Also "Zoom" by Fat Larry's Band and "Song song blue" by Neil diamond.It'ld be good if Stardust was like how MyMp used to be with no ads and no DJ's,just lots of good music.Also,if Stardust played "Morningtow n ride" by The Seekers.Also "Candle in the Wind" by Elton John and "high" by Lighthouse Family.I didn't just request lighthouse family here,I've suggested lots of songs which other people'll enjoy.

Hi,
On the weekends Stardust should play A-Z of Variety and also the Top 500 Countdown of the best songs of all time.Also the top 1000 Countdown of the best songs of all time.
Also,please get rid of the Bird Station.Also I think Stardust should play some older 90's music like "High" by Lighthouse Family.
I also think Stardust and Magic shouldn't compete against each other.

Thank you Stardust, we have been looking for a station like you for such a long time. Will certainly keep listening as we don't enjoy a lot of today's disharmony and lack of melody. Your soothing tones have been a godsend post surgery.

Who wants to take bets on how long this will last? I give it 6 months, just long enough for Stardust to develop a following, before the brainiacs at SCA replace it with a 24 hour Dubstep station or something equally as rubbish. Enjoy Stardust while you can, people.

Have just discovered Stardust. Fabulous music. ( Obviously I fit into the demographic) I love that there no DJ rants or ads Good on ya!
