Follow up calls made to UK nurse after prank call

As the inquest into the death of Jacintha Saldanha gets set to begin in 10 days, a Sunday Times investigation in the UK claims other calls were made to the nurse.

They are saying SCA will present evidence that shows four follow up calls were made within an hour of the original prank call.

"One of the calls was ended abruptly, but three others were long enough to have been a conversation. They were not made by the DJs, but members of the 'Hot 30' show's production team," the 'Times' said.

A 2Day FM spokesman has told Fairfax Media: "We can confirm that four follow up calls were made to seek permission to air the call within an hour of the [prank call] being made. Telstra has verified the calls as coming from our Sydney studio and all being received at the same number in London [at the King Edward VII's Hospital where Saldanha worked].

"Because the calls were placed overseas, there was some debate about whether permission was needed. After the fourth call, we were advised internally we didn't need permission because [Saldanha] was not a resident of Australia."

Mel Greig is expected to appear at the inquest starting on September 12.

The hospital has started a fund and raised over 10,000 pounds for Saldanha's Bristol-based family husband Benedict Barboza, son Jonal, and her niece Lisha, who the family had adopted.

Southern Cross Austereo is in the process of setting up a trust fund to pay their pledged compensation of $500,000.
