Paul Dix passes away

2QN Deniliquin's long-serving Breakfast Announcer, Paul Dix, passed away this morning.

Paul, who had been the Breakfast Announcer on 2QN since March 1951, had announced his retirement due to illness in the past weeks.

General Manager of Rich Rivers Broadcasters, Frank Davidson, has posted this open message on 2QN's Facebook page;

I wish to advise that our 2QN breakfast & 3NE afternoon announcer Paul Dix passed away earlier this morning after a short illness.

To say Dixy will be missed is an understatement as he was and always be an integral part of our team.

Paul’s many friends and listeners in our coverage area will miss waking up with Dixy each morning and at this sad time our thoughts and condolences are with his wife Margaret and the family.

Further details as they come to hand will be advised and once again our thoughts at this sad time are with the family.

2QN listeners have reacted with great love and sadness for Paul, as you would imagine after 51 years on Breakfast. A few comments from the stations Facebook page are shown below;

Very sad news. I had the true pleasure of working with Paul straight out of Swinburne Radio School at 2QN and then during my early radio days. A true gentleman of his time and a huge loss for our Radio family. My sincere condolences to Paul's family and of course to the Rich Rivers Radio and North East Broadcasters teams as well.

I'm shocked and saddened to hear this news. I had the pleasure of working with Dixie 15 years ago. He was a pro, and an all-round great guy. I'm among many who will miss his epic stories! Condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure to spend a couple of years working with Paul at 1521QN over a decade ago from 2000. Paul Dix was a fantastic broadcaster who connected with his audience. He was respected and loved by all. For a person to be on air for 50 years is outstanding and the contribution Paul made to Southern News Wales and Northern Victoria, in these towns can never be measured. Paul was a true gentleman, professional and encompassed everything Radio is. I am a better person for working with Paul Dix. To Margaret and family, my sincere condolences for your huge loss. Paul will be missed greatly.

Dixy will miss your one and only voice during the breakfast show. Miss your "birthday calls" you did for me. You'd always remember. Thoughts are with all your family
David Wicks (Dave Jacobs)(18:15pm 21 Sep 2013)
One of the few real gentlemen of radio. I worked with him between 1968-84 and took over the breakfast show for two years (1970-71) when he left radio to work for a Deni Travel business (two years later Dixy was back where he belonged!).
Besides being a wonderful communicator, Paul was a brilliant creative writer who could have gone much further in the business. I once asked him "why stay here?" He replied, simply "Deni is my home - we love living here." Peaceful journey friend.
Chris Lewis(13:59pm 23 Sep 2013)
Sincere loss. Dixy was a true veteran having worked with and alongside him at 2QN for over 3 years. His passing came as a shock to me and I'm sure, many others, He always had a smile on his face and his laugh was well known.
At peace.
Rebecca Leahy(14:02pm 24 Sep 2013)
Dearest Dixie, a true gentlemen. A man of integrity, warmth, modesty and incredible life experiences. They don't make them like you anymore. It was an honour and privilege working alongside you. Thanks for the hits and the memories.
