Holleran: ‘Kyle just having fun’

Following the resignation of 2Day FM's Content Director Derek Bargwanna last Friday (here), Kyle Sandilands has expressed disappointment at how the departure had been handled.

Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, Sandilands said: "That's just the way it happens. There is no cake or ceremony, people just walk out with a little box of their possessions."

Today in The Australian, CEO Rhys Holleran has dismissed Sandilands comments, saying "Kyle was just having a bit of fun….our position is that we don't make it a rule to comment on people who leave but that shouldn't be interpreted as meaning anything".

Bargwanna is known to be close to Sandilands, who was reportedly strongly supportive of him being appointed Content Director at 2Day a few years ago, following Jamie Angel's move to Triple M.

Holleran confirmed to The Australian that SCA were presently in negotiations with Sandilands to extend his contract:

"We've had a longstanding relationship with Kyle, and we hope that continues."

Hollerans comments come on the same day the Courier Mail has speculated over the future of the Triple M and B105 Breakfast shows in Brisbane, referring to their ratings as "stubbornly low". 

SCA Brisbane General Manager Richard Barker has refuted the inference, saying that both B105's and Triple M Brisbane's Breakfast shows would remain unchanged.

The Australian asked Holleran about a recent research questionnaire of B105 listeners in Brisbane, which asked;

"If you had to lose one person from your favourite breakfast show, who would that be?" and "Could you tell us why you would choose to lose this person?"

Holleran has defended the survey saying; "It was to find out where we can improve, it was certainly not designed to fire people. We've got a bit more sophistication than that."
