SCA Boss ‘we look to be the best’

Following the first board meeting since the radio ratings were released, Southern Cross Austereo Chairman Max Moore-Wilton has backed the management of the company.

However, he has noted that SCA have "big issues" to deal with following the departure of Kyle & Jackie O.

At the board meeting yesterday, CEO Rhys Holleran and Chief Content Officer Guy Dobson presented their strategy for the company in a meeting described by Moore-Wilton as "very constructive".

Moore-Wilton has been vocal since the ratings were released, saying that "nobody has a guarantee on tenure" on their roles with the company, although clarified later that there was no intention to review the senior positions in the company.

Speaking to the Australian Financial Review, Moore-Wilton commented:

“We assessed all of our businesses and the strategies and actions being proposed by management and the management is going forward to develop those initiatives. I am very hopeful we will have some very some positive news for listeners and advertisers.”

Specifically regarding 2Day FM he said:

“These are big issues but we are looking at what we can do to rebuild the breakfast slot in Sydney. We look to be the best. We were No. 1 in the slot and we had a significant change.

To regain market share, we have to convince listeners and advertisers we are the best. It’s not their fault, it’s our fault. We have to convince them we are more forward looking, more relevant than anyone else.”

The AFR asked if Moore-Wiltons own position as Chairman was under scrutiny following the performance:

“As far as I know, the board is a very professional and stable board, and we are planning to go forward and report back to the market in due course – and in our discussions, we will get an indication of whether they are satisfied with the composition of the board.”
