2UE pain deepens, cuts forecast

Staff Writer

The once high-flying 2UE in Sydney has had a tough few years, with the most recent survey results seeing the station record the lowest ratings in it's long history.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that Fairfax is about to put in place another new business strategy for 2UE, which will see jobs cut at the struggling station.

It reports that staff attended a meeting yesterday, which forcast the cuts that will take place this week, with the newsroom costs being heavily targeted. Chris Parker, 2UE General Manager (pictured), reportedly told staff that the station would be “changing the way we do things”.

2UE has been relaunched multiple times recently, with each relaunch pre-empting further ratings decline.

In the most recent survey, 2UE fell to an overall share of 4.2%, only ahead of 2CH, Radio National, NewsRadio and Classic FM.

Whilst Breakfast appears safe, as the highest rating show on 2UE (3.9%), the Mornings and Afternoons lineups may be under review.

Angela Catterns (left) on Mornings (2.5%) is ranked beneath Classic FM and behind every Sydney commercial station.

In Afternoons, Dicko & Sarah (2.4%) is an expensive lineup for a relatively 'off-broadway' daypart in the talk format.

With the changes forecast to be occurring over the next day or so, watch this space.
