LightFM make a listener a star

Staff Writer

LightFM in Melbourne has launched a seriously big, and very cool, story arc to a huge response from the audience.

With long-term Breakfast co-host Lucy Holmes Bailey finishing with the station this morning to go on maternity leave, LightFM have a Breakfast co-host role to fill.

So who have they chosen to fill the role?

Well nobody yet…the audience will play a role in the decision. LightFM's 'Big Break' has been launched, where the station will hire a genuine, real, 'non-radio' listener to co-host Breakfast with Kel McWilliam for the remainder of 2014.

The role will be a genuine one, at least for the four months or so of maternity leave, where the successful applicant will be required to not do everything required of a Breakfast Announcer, and will be paid on a full-time basis for the role.

You can hear the launch of the idea from Lucy & Kel on-air from wednesday's show below, along with the reaction from the listeners, and the sign-off the following day from CEO Jarrod Graetz.

Great idea from the LightFM team, and an excellent story arc that will undoubtedly engage listeners with the radio station over the next few months; particularly considering LightFM has a cume of over 750,000 (McNair 2013), so there is bound to be a big response from the audience!

Good luck with listening through those applications guys!

Auditions start monday on LightFM.

And the listeners loved it, hear the reaction below:
