Labby leaving B105 Breakfast

Staff Writer

After seven years, Jason “Labby” Hawkins is leaving Brisbane’s B105.

He is following his lifetime dream of living overseas and is moving across the ditch to New Zealand with his family early next year.

Labby said, “Not many people in radio get the opportunity to leave on a high. For me, hosting my dream job with my two best mates is going to be pretty hard to ever top. I grew up on the south-side listening to Jamie Dunn and chasing the B105 Black Thunders all over Brisbane, so to have had the opportunity to host the B105 breakfast show has been a dream come true!”

"My wife Lou and I have always wanted to take on an adventure and move overseas. When work opportunities came up in New Zealand and we realized it’s only a pissy three and a half hour flight, we jumped at the chance.”

B105 Content Director Mickey Maher said, “Labby is not only one of the most passionate, creative radio people I know, but he has been a great mate for many years. His drive for compelling, innovative success has been rewarding to see and be part of. We will miss him but wish Labby the best for the future.”

Labby’s career began with Triple M Brisbane in 1999, answering the phones for free cans of coke. He’s hosted drive on Perth’s 92.9,  co-hosted the night show on Sydney’s 2Day FM, followed by a stint on drive before returning home to B105’s breakfast show in 2007.

“The hardest part about walking away is leaving two of my best friends. Stav, Abby and I see each other more than we see our families. I’d love to say some funny, smart-ass comment about getting away from them, but it's just not the case. I will miss these guys deeply,” said Labby.

Southern Cross Austereo Brisbane General Manager Richard Barker said, “Labby has come a long way from the St. Laurence’s boy who used to follow the Black Thunders around town, to one of the hardest working and best-known announcers in the country. In 2007, he came back to his hometown of Brisbane to do breakfast here at B105, the station he grew up listening to. We wish him every success with his future endeavours in New Zealand.”

Labby’s last day on the B105 breakfast show will be Friday 5th December.

B105 have also confirmed that Stav and Abby will return to breakfast in the New Year.
