Kyle under new investigation

ACMA has launched an investigation into comments made by Kyle Sandilands on 2Day FM about a child born with disabilities in Pakistan.

Sandilands referred to the child, who was born with additional limbs, as a 'spider baby'. Hear the 2Day audio below;

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

However, there is no investigation into Fitzy & Wippa who made similar comments about the story, including using production pieces, on Nova 969.

The reason for this is that no formal complaint has been made to ACMA about Nova, whereas there was regarding 2Day FM. You can hear the Nova audio below.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

ACMA Spokesperson Emma Rossi said "I can confirm that we have opened an investigation".

Southern Cross Austereo have commented; “We are aware that ACMA is investigating these comments and we will submit our response as required. We do not believe there is any substance to the complaints.”

When you have listened to the audio pieces, leave a comment with your thoughts. Has Kyle stepped over the line? Was what Fitzy & Wippa said more, or less, offensive than Kyle? Is it a storm in a teacup?

Oh please really? nothing to see here. I thought both segments were harmless and qualify as parody. If anything the nova guys went further than kyle and jacki, but both were pretty harmless.
If ACMA deem this worthy of investigation then we're all in trouble.
Julian Assange (15:10pm 29 May 2012)
So Sandilands makes some lame arse joke and a few of those haters decide to complain.....wasting everyone's time...c'mon people!!
Phil (15:21pm 29 May 2012)
What a load of toss! Neither of the comments were offensive and if they want to throw the book at Kyle, they may as well do the same to Nova as Kyle's saving grace is that he didn't play a produced '6 legged baby' sting between every joke. When will people learn that their radio has 2 knobs. One of them changes station and the other turns it off. Sheesh...

Hunted by the haters..
Anonymous (16:46pm 29 May 2012)
Actually, the comments/content from both stations are offensive, maybe not to Nova, maybe not to someone reading this discussion - or maybe not to someone inside 2Day's desensitised breakfast bubble, but they will be to someone else - that is guaranteed. Nova are by no means off the hook - yet. All it takes is a letter.

The difference between ACMA launching its own investigation of 2Day and not Nova is because of the recently imposed additional conditions on the 2Day's licence, all thanks to Kyle. His mouth caused this situation, noone else.

Turning off or tuning out doesn't solve the issue either - the damage is already done. People should be able to listen to any free-to-air broadcast service without fear of offence or vilification. Take Howard Stern as an example of this - he went subscription via satellite and now has his own private audience to do as he pleases. Perhaps Kyle needs to get some advice from Howard.

I'll be glad to see Kyle finally given the boot - that is if 2Day have the guts to go through a lengthy legal battle/settlement - cause this one won't go quietly, that's for sure - and the sooner the better.

What a load of bunk anonymous. You hide your hatred behind anonymous. At least I have the guts to use my real name.
Gunner (The Wasp) (18:06pm 29 May 2012)
Yeah, Im with Lonely. That seems like alot of writing 'anon', perhaps you've been burned? or didn't get that 'hot Townsville gig' Give it a rest and go and create a show or something worth paying a million bucks for.
Michelle (18:21pm 29 May 2012)
Not the worst thing Sandilands has done, but more bad PR for 2DAY FM, already bruised and battered by his scandals.
Jason McLean (20:46pm 29 May 2012)
I don't think either segment is offensive and I doubt any breaches will be found. However, it is fairly cheap humour, perhaps there is a better way of telling that story.....I certainly wouldn't go that angle. In saying that, love the comment from Gunner the Wasp regarding anon's post. Maybe not worth a million bucks but it was gold.
Gunner (The Wasp) (21:34pm 29 May 2012)
Yes, it was all Wasp wasn't it?

So what's wrong with Townsville? Never lived or worked there, but I'm sure the locals love their town - or are they somehow inferior in your opinion? Why target Townsville? What did the good people of Townsville do to you to earn your apparent benchmark of 'rock bottom'? Rude.

And I'm not so certain you'd find 'Johnny Lonely' in the whitepages.

Unlike the unfortunate minority in this industry who cannot control their ego behind a microphone or in front of a camera, I'm smart enough to post non-offensive & informed opinion here anonomously so I don't jeopardise a metro gig held for 6 years.

Let me be clear about this. I personally find the Nova segment to have far more offensive potential than what went to air on 2Day - and I hope Nova is investigated for it. But Kyle is a repeat offender, now operating under unheard of licencing conditions that his mouth put there. According to the aircheck, the red light came on - and still he didn't stop. So where was the ACMA imposed 30 second dump button that could have prevented all this? This all could have been easilly avoided by the show's stars and producers - but ego and ignorance seem to prevail on 2Day breakfast.
Gunner (The Wasp) \'a Townsville Troubadour\' (10:50am 30 May 2012)
Nothing against Townsville, it's by no means rock bottom and it wasn't offensive. It was just any regional market that came to mind. If you want to 'be clear about this' lol... like you matter lol... 'may i say god save the queen', lol etc etc - at least have the guts to pontificate with ya real name like ole Lonely and Wasp and I, wait I'm Wasp. I don't know what White Pages app you have bro, but we're both there, pride of place, in Townsville. In any case, did I mention it was a regional.... oh yes I did. Carry on old timer.
Ray (11:04am 30 May 2012)
Anonymous sounds like a disgruntled street-teamer...from Townsville.

Raymond... you knows it... and you loves it...
Anonymous (14:02pm 30 May 2012)
I fail to see what the issue is here...? it seems like people who are easily offended (those who are very closed minded) attack Kyle for the littlest of things now... what was it that was so offensive about his remarks? I'd listen to Kyle over Fitzy any day...
Gunner (The Wasp) (16:48pm 30 May 2012)
It's got nothing to do with the content anymore, it's people's obsession with hating him. You tune to K&J expecting to get some hype and borderline topics etc... or as proven here, some listen just to find something to complain about him for. He knows as a grown man, it's trashy stuff that works and gets street talk. Earlier Anon is green over his dollars, and that the guy can hit the post and you may think he does nothing, but I can tell you - he's worked his butt off to get where he is and never stops thinking about the show. Thats a winning combination. Keep practicing haters. (ooo the wasp has done it again)
Phil (21:06pm 30 May 2012)
Wow. That anonymous dude a few posts back has issues. I love how whenever someone is accused of being from a regional they immediately reply that they work in metro even though they can't tell us where it is. He also hopes Nova get investigated for their comments? What?! If people like you have your way then you will have NO comedy on the radio. Every single station will sound like Smooth and have wall to wall music and ads with the odd jock coming in to tell you who Carly Rae Jepsen is every once in a while. Is that what you really want? Are we that sensitive in our society that we should run to mother every time the DJ says a bad thing? Just turn it off if you don't like it. Or change it to Smooth. Help them get their 6%. LOL.
